CLUB COMPETITIONS

Competition Rules
Full members are eligible to enter the Club competitions described below.

1 The Committee may make such additions or amendments to these competitions as it considers to be necessary for the benefit of the Club and its decision on the interpretation of any description or definition shall be final.

MONOCHROME PRINT COMPETITION

2 PAUL E DAMEN SHIELD (BEGINNERS' and ADVANCED SECTIONS)

A shield will be awarded in each section to the member accumulating the highest number of marks from four out of a series of five open and set-subject competitions for monochrome prints. The competition will be judged concurrently with that for the Joan Hildreth Trophy for colour prints for which the Competition Secretary will maintain separate marks. The competition will also be judged on the same evening as the complementary Thurgood Shield competition for slides.

COLOUR PRINT COMPETITION

3 JOAN HILDRETH TROPHY (BEGINNERS' and ADVANCED SECTIONS)

A trophy will be awarded in each section to the member accumulating the highest number of marks from four out of a series of five open and set-subject competitions for colour prints. The competition will be judged concurrently with the Paul E Damen Shield for monochrome prints for which the Competition Secretary will maintain separate marks. The competition will also be judged on the same evening as the complementary Thurgood Shield competition for slides.

MONOCHROME OR COLOUR PRINT COMPETITIONS

4 BARBARA "SMALL PRINT" TROPHY

Awarded to the member attaining first place in an annual open subject competition for small (i.e. size including mount not to be greater than 80 square inches) monochrome or colour prints.

5 FERDY BARREL PLATE

Awarded to the member attaining first place in an annual competition for monochrome or colour prints. The competition will be judged on the same evening as the complementary Kendrick Cup competition for slides. Subjects will be Portraits or Applied Photography alternating separately each year between the two competitions as announced in the Club programme.

Portraits shall be of one or more persons, taken with or without the knowledge of the subject or subjects, inside or out-of-doors, using artificial or natural lighting. Natural history subjects are not eligible.

Applied Photography illustrates, records and provides information about all or part of any man-made object or natural feature that has been influenced by man. Essential requirements are sharpness of focus and overall technical quality conveying the maximum amount of information. Pictorial content is of secondary importance.

6 CHRISTINE'S CUP

Awarded to the member attaining first place in an annual open subject competition for monochrome or colour prints. Only open to members who over the previous season have not attained first place in the Paul E. Damen Shield, Joan Hildreth Trophy or Ian Graham Trophy competitions, excluding the beginners sections.

7 IAN GRAHAM TROPHY (PRINT OF THE YEAR)

Awarded to the member attaining first place in an annual open subject competition for monochrome or colour prints.

8 NATURAL HISTORY TROPHY

Awarded to the member attaining first place in an annual competition for monochrome or colour prints depicting animals in the wild or any living wild plant. The competition will be judged on the same evening as the complementary Natural History competition for slides. Pictorial content is of secondary importance.

SLIDE COMPETITIONS

9 THURGOOD SHIELD (BEGINNERS' and ADVANCED SECTIONS)

A shield will be awarded in each section to the member accumulating the highest number of marks from four out of a series of five open and set-subject competitions for slides. The competition will be judged on same evening as the complementary competitions for the Paul E Damen Shield for monochrome prints and the Joan Hildreth Trophy for colour prints.

10 JOHN BLAY MEMORIAL TROPHY (SLIDE OF THE YEAR)

Awarded to the member attaining first place in an annual open subject competition for colour slides.

11 HERTFORD CAMERAS TROPHY

Awarded to the member attaining first place in an annual three slide set-subject competition.

12 KENDRICK CUP

Awarded to the member attaining first place in an annual competition for colour slides. The competition will be judged on the same evening as the complementary Ferdy Barrel Plate competition for monochrome or colour prints. Subjects will be Portraits or Applied Photography alternating separately each year between the two competitions as announced in the Club programme.

The competition will be judged on the same evening as the complementary Natural History competition for monochrome and colour prints. Pictorial content is of secondary importance.

14 FRED'S TROPHY

To be received by the member attaining first place in an annual open subject competition for slides. Only open to members who, over the previous season, have not attained first place in the John Blay Memorial Trophy or the Thurgood Shield excluding the beginners section.
